The Secret To Using "Head-Hunters"

By Don Monteith There is a difference. Some job seekers use a staffing service
to work on their behalf to help discover their dream job, but
there is another specialist to assist you too..... he/she is called a head hunter in the vernacular of the marketplace. Don't be fearful of the head hunter. These guys/gals put their
pants on one leg at a time just like the rest of us. Most have
families - spouses - children - go to church - serve on boards
for charities - belongs to the Chamber of Commerce, etc. Somehow word gets out that can send a wrong message to
those who are seeking a new career path. There's talk about
fees; who pays the piper; they only work with certain groups
and other false rumors that get passed around. It's true - some head hunters are so well entrenched that you
may not get their attention. Don't worry about it. Keep looking
for the recruiter who is hungry for new business. They are out
there waiting and searching for you, that's a promise. Too many Job Seekers think the newspaper ads section runs
all the available "job openings" in the marketplace. Nothing
could be further from the truth. Just look through the newspaper on Sunday when most ads
seem to run, not much to choose from, is there? You'll soon
uncover the fact that many commission only jobs are in the
newspapers everyday and more added weekly. No details about the position, the salary, a lot of fluff, and no
substance, just a lot hype for the unitiated job hunter. It's sad
but true that not everyone in the marketplace is honest and
filled with business or personal integrity. This "newspaper searching" is absolutely the worst place you
can look, expecting to find YOUR dream job. It does nothing to
benefit you, and is usually a major waste of time unless your
goal is... any old job will do. Promises, promises, promises - newspaper ads seldom, if ever,
tell the whole truth about the jobs being advertised. Expense
is certainly a factor, but sometimes the real facts are purposely
hidden from the unspecting job searcher. If it sounds "too good to be true", then believe your inner
voice. Many ads are come-ons to the unsuspecting and trusting
job seeker. You should always think of the RECRUITER or the "head-hunter"
as your "connection" to the "underground" job market. That
sounds like black market, but not at all. Recruiters often have
the only connection to the most desireable positions. This "underground" job market is where good jobs are seldom
advertised to the public, they are announced to ONLY a few,
carefully selected hiring professionals who know where the
BEST candidates can be found. Think of the Recruiter as your "Private Connection", if you
wish, and make them work for you. If one of your chosen "head-hunters" (recruiters) doesn't
produce interviews for you, you wouldn't keep him involved
very long on your team, would you? Successful Recruiters have an arsenal of "good" jobs waiting
to be filled by a TOP candidate. If interviews don't happen
